Bullhead City – December 20, 2022 – Christmas on the Colorado brought light to the stretch of river between Bullhead City’s Community Park and the Laughlin Bridge this past Saturday night for community members far and wide to enjoy. The backdrop of the casinos and the vessels against the water welcomed Christmas spirit to our area’s most cherished resource.

The Bullhead Area Chamber and Laughlin Chamber of Commerce developed this event in efforts to highlight our community of boating enthusiasts. The event sponsors were Western Arizona Regional Medical Center, Murphy Broadcasting, Our Town Magazine, Hospice Compassus, The Event Station, and Mohave Valley Daily News.

The Christmas on the Colorado boat parade had over 30 registered vessels, though wind and other factors brought parade participation down to roughly fifteen boats the day of. The parade was free to enter, and the only requirement was that participants decorated their vessel in Christmas lights to welcome the holiday spirit.

“For the first year bringing this event back, we could not be prouder of the participants and their efforts they put in to decorating their vessels. This Event would not have been an event without them” says Bo Hellams – President and CEO of the Bullhead Area Chamber of Commerce.

There were three categories to choose from when entering the parade – family/individual, business, and non-profit. Participants were encouraged to go for gold and decorate for best display of lights in each of the perspective categories. An additional award was given out for most spirited overall as well. All voting was done by the crowd via an online voting platform and over 120 votes were casted Saturday night. The winners received a rather large trophy provided by Western Arizona Regional Medical Center and a prepackaged s’mores kit provided by Summitt’s River Realty.

In our family/individual category, the winner was the Bastio family. They had a beautifully decorated jet boat in all pink with a fisherman off the side of the boat with quite the catch.

The best decorated business vessel was from Laughlin River Tours – The Celebration, who led the way with Reindeer off the front guiding us safely down the river.

In the non-profit category, Bullhead City’s Rotary Club took first place showcasing an amazing display of lights for all to see.

Most spirited was awarded to the Snell family. Their boat was bright and so were their spirits, laughter, and holiday joy.

During and after the event, there was music, s’mores, food trucks, and fake snow for the entire family to enjoy in Community Park. As next year comes around, it will be the goal of the Chambers to grow this after party into last minute shopping opportunities, diverse food trucks of plenty, children and adult crafts projects, spirited apparel contest, picnic tables and much more! We thank everyone who stopped by and welcomed in the holiday spirit in Community Park with us!

Jackie Wallin – President and CEO of the Laughlin Chamber of Commerce stated, “To be able to see the excitement on the river’s edge in Laughlin and Bullhead City communities was amazing! The beaches along the Arizona shores were full of citizens who created holiday parties with the parade in mind, celebrated and the Nevada River Walk was packed with wide eyed spectators cheering on those who participated and thanking them for decorating their vessels.  The Christmas spirit truly shined bright tonight across the tri-state area and river community members came together as one community – the true meaning of Christmas.”

This event is, and will always be, a staple in our community, evident by the absolutely packed shorelines. It is the goal of the Chambers to grow this event much larger for years to come, to gain even more participation, and truly show off the beauty of our tri-state area. This event will steadily be hosted on the third Saturday of December year after year so mark your calendars today. We thank all those who participated, there would have been no event without you!

Merry Christmas from the Bullhead and Laughlin Chamber of Commerce teams. We surely hope you enjoyed Christmas on the Colorado as much as we did. See you all next year!
