MCSO PRESS RELEASE January 27, 2020
On Friday (1/24) at approximately 5:45 PM, Mohave County Sheriff’s Office received a call of an Aircraft in the water approximately 1-1.5 miles north of the mouth of the Colorado River, in the Refuge area. Deputies with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Division of Boating Safety, Search and Rescue Division, and Patrol Division responded to the area, and call notes advised that two subjects were involved. It was further advised that the occupants were hanging onto the plane and that the plane was about to be submerged in the water. Upon arrival at the scene, it was determined that there were no injuries to either involved party. It was further determined that the plane was a sea style plane and had not crashed, but had attempted to land on the Colorado River. While on the water, the plane started to take on water in its float, causing it to submerge underwater. Both involved subjects were transported to Windsor State Park for evaluation. The involved plane was recovered from the Colorado River without incident.
