Member of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue units have returned from the Arizona SAR Conference “SARCON 2022”. The Arizona Search & Rescue Coordinator’s Association, LTD on behalf of the Arizona Sheriff’s Association sponsored the event. Volunteers and coordinators from across the State attended the event and participated in a wide range of training activities, as well as several discussions on tools and techniques of search and rescue missions.
Training (4/20 to 4/22) began with the K9 Teams advancing their skills in trailing, air scent detection, and human remains detection. Additional classes were offered on K9 Emergency Medical Care, Ingress/Egress K9 training with the DPS helicopter, and the Canine Good Citizen evaluation.
The main conference training (4/22 to 4/24) offered this year included classes on tracking (instructed by Mohave County); search tactics (instruction assisted by Mohave County); AZDPS helicopter safety, including ingress and egress activities; fitness and 24-hour pack standards; high angle rescue techniques; low angle rescue techniques for patient packaging; wilderness first aid; basic survival instruction; GPS and land navigation; an introduction to SAR TOPO mapping programming; bone identification; traps and snares; vehicle recovery and, many others.
