Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Deputies arrested John Eric Simms, 28 of Yuma, for two counts Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon per Domestic Violence, Disorderly Conduct with a Weapon, and Weapons Misconduct, all felonies. On Sunday (11/28) deputies received a call of gunshots at a residence in the 4400 block of Estado Ln. in Fort Mohave.

Deputies arrived on scene and observed that both parties noted to be involved in the incident had left the residence. Deputies made contact with a neighbor who had observed the altercation. The witness reported that a verbal altercation escalated when the female victim attempted to leave the residence in her vehicle and Simms had shot a handgun in the direction of the victim’s vehicle.

During the investigation, a car matching the suspect’s vehicle drove by the residence. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and detained Simms. Simms admitted to deputies that he and his girlfriend had been arguing, but denied having any weapons. While searching the property, deputies located a fresh shell casing in the area where Simms was alleged to have discharged the handgun. John Eric Simms was arrested and transported to the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility in Kingman without incident.
