The Bullhead City School District (BCSD) will break ground Monday, October 16, on the first phase of its new neighborhood for affordable employee rental housing. Costs are covered by a Congressionally-approved bipartisan federal grant, not local property taxes.
- The 1:00 p.m. groundbreaking is open to media coverage, but due to parking logistics and as a courtesy to other nearby residents, it is notopen to the public.
- The small neighborhood is designed to help address school district recruitment and retention challenges. So-called “teacherages” are specifically allowed under Arizona law. BCSD’s concept, now dubbed DEN (District Employee Neighborhood), was first discussed in 2019. The BCSD governing board approved the plan in 2022. It has since undergone a town hall meeting, and public hearings this year by the Bullhead City Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council.
