Bullhead City, AZ – A new scam was recently brought to Mohave Electric Cooperative’s attention where individuals were door knocking and claiming to follow up on letters that were supposedly sent to their homes from MEC. This is a scam, and the residents live in areas not serviced by MEC.

This comes on the heels of reports that were received a few weeks ago that also involved people claiming to represent TWN and asking for access to property and perhaps the interior of the home.

Previously, scammers called TWN customers and claimed that they needed remote access to their computers. TWN nor MEC will never request remote access to your computer or screen share.

MEC also received information from members regarding solar energy companies (or individuals) going door-to-door stating that they work on behalf of, or are partnered with, MEC and are willing to install solar systems. Members stated that they must provide personal information to these solar sale individuals to receive the offer. MEC does not support these poor sales tactics, and members are encouraged to speak with our Energy Management Specialist prior to purchasing solar.

Mohave Electric Cooperative would like to make it clear and known that MEC does not contract with solar companies to install any home solar projects.

When MEC representatives come to your neighborhood, they will be in vehicles marked with the Mohave Electric Cooperative logo and will carry MEC photo IDs. Contractor crews will have signs on their vehicles indicating that they are working for MEC and will also carry photo IDs and a letter from MEC stating that they are authorized to work as MEC’s contractor.

If you receive such a call and/or feel that anything is suspicious, immediately call MEC at 928-763-1100.
