FORT MOHAVE–A summer camp for kids in the Fort Mohave area will be open thanks to the partnership of the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of the Colorado River and Desert Star Academy.
Club president Autumn Boyle-Robinson announced Monday morning the local middle school will be able to temporarily provide about 60 children per day, a place to participate in the club’s summer program, which will coincide with the main Bullhead City location.
The 8-week Summer Day Camp is open to children ages 5 to 12. Breakfast and lunches will be provided at no extra charge. The summer program is $125 per child if paid in full by May 4; $160 per child if paid by June 4 or $40 a week. The program runs Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning June 4.
“Our summer programs are incredibly active and built around a fun and educational schedule,” said Boyle-Robinson. “Desert Star Academy has the perfect location for our summer program and they opened their doors, and hearts, with open arms. By partnering with a local school it allows the club to provide our Summer Day Camp program while we work on plans for a permanent location, which is planned for the fall.”
The new building, said Boyle-Robinson, will be able to serve up to 300 per day. A “Fund the Fort” campaign is underway to help raise money for the new location.
“Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens,” said Boyle-Robinson. “There are over 1,100 children in the Fort Mohave area and it is crucial our children have a safe place to go, positive mentors and access to homework help and food.”
The club is asking Fort Mohave businesses to invest in the local youth by participating in the campaign. Businesses interested in hosting a fundraiser on behalf of the Fort Mohave Club can contact Boyle-Robinson at 928-763-1411 or by email at autumn@clubriver.org.
