BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT RELEASES FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS FOR JOVE SOLAR PROJECT

PHOENIX, AZ – Today, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announces the release of the final Environmental Impact Statement for the Jove Solar Project.

If approved, the project could generate up to 600 megawatts of clean energy, which would be sufficient to power approximately 180,000 homes. Proposed by Jove Solar, LLC, the plan involves constructing, operating, maintaining, and eventually decommissioning a utility-scale solar facility, along with a potential battery energy storage system, on nearly 3,495 acres of public land and 38 acres of county lands in La Paz County.

The project aims to connect to the 500-kilovolt Cielo Azul switching station and Ten West Link transmission line. Embracing environmentally-conscious planning, BLM’s preferred alternative avoids construction within a desert wash crossing the project area, thus preserving the channel floodplain, maintaining wildlife habitat connectivity and avoiding areas of environmental sensitivity.

“The BLM supports the efficient development of renewable energy to achieve the Biden-Harris administration’s goal of making the power sector pollution-free by 2035,” said Ray Castro, BLM Yuma Field Manager. “As the project progresses, we remain committed to engaging with Tribal, federal, state, and local governments, local communities, stakeholder groups, and industry.”

Following the release of the analysis, a Notice of Availability will be published in the Federal Register. Additional project information can be found on the BLM National NEPA Register.

This project adds to the Biden-Harris administration’s track record of approving 42 renewable energy projects on public lands, exceeding their initial goal to permit 25 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2025.
