At approximately 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2020, Lake Havasu City Fire units responded to a water flow fire alarm at a storage unit complex in the 1000 block of Empire Dr. The first arriving fire company reported an active water flow from building G, with smoke showing from the roof of the complex. Engine two upgraded the alarm to a commercial fire. Two Engine Companies, one Truck Company, one adapted response and a Battalion Chief responded to the fire. Companies forced entry into the involved storage unit and found a 24 foot boat on fire being suppressed by the complex fire sprinkler system that had activated. Fire crews extinguished the rest of the smoldering boat interior and confirmed no other storage units were involved. There were no reported injuries to the firefighters. Crews remained on the scene an additional one hour and forty minutes conducting salvage operations. The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical short in the boat's accessories.
