Bids for Kids

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Colorado River would typically be hustling to get the Bids for Kids Auction ready, but this year will be quite different! 2021 would have marked the 30th anniversary of the landmark event. Unfortunately, like most other events, it has been canceled due to COVID-19. Despite not having fundraising events, the Club has had its doors open, serving kids and supporting distance learning throughout the pandemic. This year the Bids for Kids event will consist of two parts, the football squares pool and the Bids for Kids opportunity to sponsor a child. Both will be held online at the Club’s website

The football squares have always been a popular part of the Bids for Kids event. Supporters can buy a square for $20 and have the chance to win cash prizes throughout the Superbowl. Prizes for the first three quarters are $200 each, and the lucky winner who has the winning square at the end wins $400.

The Bids for Kids portion is the opportunity to sponsor a child for $25. These funds will provide scholarships for families who cannot afford the fees for Club programs. The Bids for Kids Auction event typically brings around $60,000 to support the Clubs, so not having the live event is a big financial hit. With the online Bids for Kids and football squares, we are hoping to raise $10,000.

Throughout the pandemic, the Clubs have provided free meals, distance learning support, and thousands of dollars in scholarships. “We are very aware of the hardships that people are facing in these times. We are hoping that those who can afford to give will support the Club so we can continue to do good things here locally,” stated Erica Jones, Director of Operations.
