BULLHEAD CITY, AZ – December 7, 2021 –A 10-month partial term on the Bullhead City Council became available upon the recent death of Council Member John Mieding. The term will begin in February 2022 and expire at the end of the 2022 election cycle. Applications to serve on the City Council for the partial term will be available on December 1st from the Bullhead City Clerk’s Office, and posted on the city’s website, www.bullheadcity.com, under “Elections.”
To qualify for this appointment, an applicant must be 18 years of age, have resided in Bullhead City for at least one year prior to the appointment, be a registered voter and submit their application to the City Clerk no later than Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at 5 p.m. The Bullhead City Council adopted procedures in 2016 that dictated the process that shall be followed in order to fill a vacancy on the City Council. Candidates will be interviewed by a Citizen Nominating Committee that will recommend five finalists to the Bullhead City Council.
Candidate interviews with the Nominating Committee are tentatively scheduled to be held on Monday, January 10, 2022, in the Bullhead City Council Chambers. The Bullhead City Council is expected to appoint the successful candidate at the January 18, 2022 Council meeting and that candidate would be sworn into office at the beginning of the February 1, 2022 Council meeting.
The successful appointee would fill the Council seat through the end of the 2022 election cycle. The remaining two-year term for that seat must be filled by election during the 2022 election cycle. The individual appointed to the 10-month term does not have to run for elected office but has the option to become a candidate in November 2022.
