BULLHEAD CITY, Arizona, July 15, 2026

Bullhead City has completed a roadway improvement on Meadows Drive that will make it safer and easier for motorists traveling to and from the medical offices near State Route 95. The project, completed Monday, July 13, removed a 16-foot by 100-foot section of the raised median on Meadows Drive, creating a new opening that allows motorists leaving the medical complex to safely turn left.

The improvement was completed entirely by Bullhead City crews after residents brought concerns about the roadway configuration to the City Manager’s Office. City staff evaluated the location through on-site observations and initially attempted to improve driver behavior by installing additional signage. When those efforts did not adequately address the issue, staff determined that modifying the median would provide a safer, more intuitive traffic pattern.

Previously, motorists exiting the medical complex who wished to travel west on Meadows Drive were unable to make a legal left turn because of the raised median. While drivers could turn right and seek another opportunity to reverse direction, many instead attempted unsafe left turns through the median opening intended for eastbound traffic.

Construction began several weeks ago and included removing landscaping, curb and gutter, and a portion of the raised median before installing new curb and gutter and paving the new opening. The project also required coordination with the Palo Verde Meadows Homeowners Association, which maintains the landscaping within the median. Prior to construction, the association removed landscaping in the work area and modified the irrigation system serving the remaining landscaped median, allowing City crews to complete the roadway improvements.

“Our goal is always to make our roadways as safe and intuitive as possible,” said Bullhead City Manager Toby Cotter. “We appreciate the residents who brought this concern to our attention and the Palo Verde Meadows Homeowners Association for partnering with us throughout the project. By listening to the community, evaluating the issue, and working together, we were able to implement a practical solution that improves safety for everyone using this roadway.”

As construction progressed, City crews reported receiving numerous compliments and words of appreciation from passing motorists who were pleased to see the improvement underway, reflecting strong community support for the project.

Bullhead City continuously evaluates roadway concerns throughout the community and works to implement practical, cost-effective improvements that enhance safety and traffic flow for both residents and visitors.
