Crews responded to the 1800 block of Coral Reef Drive for a reported structure fire on Sunday, 08/23/26 at approximately 6:45 p.m. First arriving units reported a fully involved 10-by-15-foot shed with active flames and smoke. Firefighters quickly deployed a handline and began attacking the blaze. Additional crews arrived to assist with water supply and fire suppression. The fire was contained to the shed and was quickly extinguished. No damage was reported to the nearby double-wide residence or wooden fence, and no injuries were reported.

During the investigation, a resident reported smoking cigarettes earlier in the day and disposing of them in a trash can next to the shed. Based on the information gathered at the scene, improperly discarded smoking materials were determined to have caused the fire.

Smoking Safety Reminder

Bullhead City Fire Department reminds residents to always properly extinguish and dispose of cigarettes and smoking materials.

• Never throw cigarette butts into a regular trash can.
• Completely extinguish cigarettes with water before disposal.
• Use a deep, sturdy container with a tight-fitting lid for smoking materials.
• Keep smoking materials away from sheds, homes, fences, vegetation, and other combustible items.
• Never leave cigarettes or smoking materials unattended.

A cigarette may appear to be out but can still contain enough heat to start a fire. Take the extra time to put it out completely and dispose of it safely.
