The Bullhead City Fire District is preparing to celebrate our 75th Anniversary. On February 15th, 1947 an election was held to decide whether or not Bullhead City should have its own fire department. The vote was unanimous: 33-0 in favor and on February 24th, by order of the Mohave County Board of Supervisors, the Bullhead City Fire District was created.

At that time, the fire district covered one square mile in the area of what is now referred to as original Bullhead City. The fire station was located next to the town Chamber of Commerce near the intersection of Main and Fourth Street. The department consisted of 15 volunteer members and the first fire chief was O.C. Buck. There were no fire hydrants in the district at that time and the fire department served the community with a 1948 Army surplus fire truck.

Today operationally, the Bullhead City Fire District responds to emergencies from 5 fire stations that are strategically located within the 54 square miles that comprise the boundaries of the fire district.  Our department is 84 members strong and is represented by a diverse workforce of dedicated men and women assigned to one of five major divisions; Suppression, Training, EMS, Administration, Community Risk Reduction, and Support Services.

In tribute to our 75th anniversary, each employee will receive a commemorative 75th-anniversary challenge coin and have the opportunity to purchase a commemorative personalized badge. Fire Chief Patrick Moore stated we are excited to acknowledge the 75th anniversary of our Fire Department.  We take great pride in the history of outstanding service and will continue to work to be an innovative agency and to provide the best services to our community.

It is our hope to have a community open house celebrating this monumental Anniversary with our friends, families, and community in October, during Fire Prevention Week. We are proud to serve this community and look forward to celebrating together.
