BULLHEAD CITY, AZ., January 11, 2024 – The Bullhead City Municipal Pool deck is scheduled to receive substantial new maintenance for the first time since the pool was opened in 1992. The City entered a contract with JTR General Engineering Contractor LLC of Lake Havasu City to resurface and seal the pool deck and make drainage improvements to the facility, including installing two new French drains.

“This is a Kool Deck,” said Bullhead City Public Works Director Angie Johnson, referring to the material that will be used to resurface the ground surrounding the pool. “It will be around the entire pool surface area, through the hallways, and also into the restrooms.”

Kool deck is a concrete coating designed to prevent the surface from getting hot from direct sunlight during the summer. It is meant to be comfortable for walking on bare feet, be slip-resistant while wet, and look tasteful.

“We’re excited that the pool deck is being professionally resurfaced,” said Bullhead City Parks and Recreation Superintendent David Heath. “A good pool deck provides better traction for little, wet feet, and the latest technology can cool the surface off considerably. That’s something that is much appreciated in our climate.”

The pool will close January 21 for work to begin and is expected to reopen April 30 after work is completed.

The $220,378.00 project was approved by council during the November 21, 2023 City Council meeting.

Questions about ongoing projects throughout the city can be directed to Mackenzie Covert, Public Information Officer, at mcovert@bullheadcityaz.gov or (928) 763-0182.
