BULLHEAD CITY, AZ., March 8, 2023 – Bullhead City is tackling the challenge of repairing weather damage to Highway 95 in addition to ongoing pavement preservation operations throughout the city. Motorists are advised to be aware of ongoing maintenance city-wide and to use caution while driving in and around working crews.

“We’ve had guys out filling potholes overnight along the highway for the last few weeks,” said Pavement Manager David Witzel. “We’ve filled cracks and potholes from Marina Blvd heading south to Rainbow Dr. We’ll continue until we get to the southern intersection of Bullhead Parkway.”

The ongoing nightly operation along highway 95 is a temporary measure designed to keep the road drivable until the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) repaves the road this summer.

“Bullhead City is helping ADOT,” said City Manager Toby Cotter. “We’re stepping in to ensure our roads are safe and drivable for our residents and visitors.”

Highway 95 isn’t the only street getting repaved soon. The City has contracted McCormick Construction to mill and repave Mohave Drive from the intersection of Country Club Drive to the intersection of Highway 95. The work will take place Monday, March 13 between the hours of 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. The road will be closed to through traffic while work is in progress, and alternating lane closures will be in effect for local traffic.

City roads crews will be slurry sealing the outside northbound lane of Bullhead Parkway from North Oatman Rd to Desert Foothills Blvd next week, along with Ramar Rd, Holly St, Thumb Butte Dr, Coronado Cir, Coronado Dr, Marble Canyon Dr, and the North Parking lot of Community Park.

City Slurry maintenance is a part of the annual City Street Maintenance Program (CSMP), which remains on track for the 22/23 season.

“The rain has caused us to cancel work a few days this season, but we’re still on track to meet our goal this year,” Witzel said.

The yearly CSMP aims to resurface 20% of the City’s road infrastructure with a slurry seal to extend the life of the pavement and improve the quality of local streets.

“A complete list of streets that will be resurfaced each year, along with the most up-to-date information regarding which streets are scheduled for maintenance this week, next week, and the previous several weeks is available online at bullheadcity.com/csmp,” said Public Information Officer Mackenzie Covert. “The CSMP page on the city’s website is updated weekly with a list of streets and a map of upcoming work. We also post updates regarding cancellations or last-minute changes that occur due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.”

The City has contracted TSI to paint traffic striping on Arroyo Vista Dr, Ramar Rd, Ricca Rd, Rio Grande Blvd, Havasupai Dr, McCormick Blvd, Riverview Dr, and Marble Canyon Dr. The work will be completed Thursday, March 9.

The City encourages residents to report road maintenance issues with the BHC Direct app.

“While we will continue to work to maintain all of our roads and infrastructure, we can’t be everywhere,” Cotter said. “We depend on residents to be our eyes and ears in the community and report problems as they arise so we can fix them. The Bullhead City Direct app is a great way for people to do that. Residents can also call our roads department at 928-234-8752 to report any issues.”

The Bullhead City Direct app is freely available on the Google Play and Apple store for Android and iOS devices and can be accessed on the city’s website at bullheadcity.com for those without smart phones or tablets. The app allows residents to report a variety of issues including street maintenance, code enforcement, and law enforcement directly to city staff. The app also features several quick access links to valuable resources and information.
