Busted Shoplifting with Drugs

Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Walmart in Ft Mohave on Sunday, (05/23/2021) at approximately 4pm to a possible shoplifting in progress. Three individuals, later identified as Makenna L Maples (24), Michael G Sparks (36) and James R Day (53) all of Bullhead City, AZ were observed shoplifting by not scanning merchandise. Subjects were approached after leaving the store and found to be in possession of items removed without payment.

During the preliminary search prior to arrest, a substance later identified to be fentanyl was located on Sparks. A Mohave County K9 unit responded and positively alerted on the suspects’ vehicle. During a search of this vehicle 50 grams of methamphetamine, over 200 alprazolam, over 5 grams of cocaine, 39 grams of mushrooms and over 5 grams of fentanyl were located inside the vehicle. Sparks was charged with possession of dangerous drugs, possession of narcotic drugs, possession of dangerous drugs for sale, possession of drug paraphernalia, (all felony charges) and shoplifting (M). Maples was charged with possession of narcotic drugs, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, taking the identity of another (all felony charges) and shoplifting (M).

James Day was cited and released on shoplifting charges (M). Sparks and Maples were taken into custody and transported without issue to the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility and booked on the aforementioned charges.
