Cheryl Lee Mockbee, age 66, of Bullhead City, Ariz. went home to join her eternal life on Friday, July 21, 2017 surrounded by family. She was born to Gilbert and Ruby (Johnson) Mockbee on February 26, 1951 in Danville, Ill.

Cheryl was a gifted writer from a very young age. She loved to express her creativity through writing. She attended Danville High School. As a teen, she was a reporter for Danville commercial news and wrote several articles for them. She married her first love June 10, 1972, Donald McElwain . Soon after they started their family and had five children. Her passion became her children, being a wife and mother. She set out to explore the country soon after the kids were born. She longed for warm weather and sunny skies. She landed in Needles, Calif. in 1989. She later remarried and had two more children. She graduated with honors from Stratford Career Institute with a degree in interior design. She continued to express her creativity in making her house a home.

She began writing again and wrote several novels. She had a strong faith in God and made reading the Bible part of her daily routine. Her young dreamy spirit and smile will forever be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Ruby Mockbee; her first love, Donald McElwain Sr.; and many more family members waiting at the gates of heaven to greet her.

Cheryl is survived by her four daughters, Renee (Michael) Clair of Iowa, Robyn Bright of Arizona, Donna (Lawrence) Kyle of Arizona, Andrea (James) Patterson of Arizona; three sons, Donald McElwain Jr of Nevada, Bret McElwain of Arizona, Anthony Mayfield of Arizona; one brother, Gilbert (Linda) Mockbee II; 18 grandchildren; four great-grand children; and many other family members.

Services will be at 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at New Growth Ministry, 1700 Lakeside Dr. Suite #4, Bullhead City, AZ. All are welcome to join that loved Cheryl.

She will find her eternal resting in Potomac Cemetery in Potomac, Illinois on October 9, 2017 with a final service to lay her to rest.
