BULLHEAD CITY, AZ – January 03, 2023 – Plunge into the new year during Bullhead City’s inaugural Polar Plunge event at the Bullhead City Municipal Pool January 6, 2023, at 11 a.m. hosted by the Bullhead City Parks and Recreation Division. This event is free and open to public. The city invites anyone courageous enough to brave the sixty-degree Fahrenheit water to take a swim and earn the title Polar Plunger, a certificate to commemorate the event, and a chance to win prizes.

“We’re very excited about this new pop-up event in Bullhead City,” said Recreation Supervisor Claire Adams. “The pool heat pumps have been off for a little while and the water is very cold. We thought it would be a lot of fun to invite brave souls to the pool to test their mettle before we turn them back on.”

The event will kick-off with a special competition between firefighters from the Bullhead City Fire Department and officers from the Bullhead City Police Department. Members from each department will line up on different ends of the pool and engage in a race to be the first to collect a plastic ring at the bottom of the center of the pool. The winning department will carry bragging rights and the title of 2023 Polar Plunge Champions.

Prospective Polar Plungers will then line the edges of the pool and prepare for the next event. City staff will throw a limited number of rings into the pool. Each ring will be associated with a prize. Staff will then give the signal to plunge into the pool. Polar Plungers will jump into the pool feet first and race to claim a ring for a prize.

Polar Plungers and spectators will then be invited to partake in poolside hot Chocolate and Coffee provided in sponsorship by Colorado River Flagstone. The locker rooms will also be heated to provide a comfortable environment for participants to dry off and get changed into warmer clothes.

Polar Plungers are responsible for bringing their own swimwear, equipment, towels, and change of clothes. Swimming in cold water can be hazardous. Polar Plungers are responsible for ensuring that they are in good health to participate.
