City of Kingman Begins Sign Compliance Efforts in Key Commercial Areas

Kingman, AZ – The City of Kingman is launching a communitywide effort to address sign compliance, beginning in several key commercial areas. City staff will work with business and property owners to resolve sign and temporary banner issues while ensuring safe, attractive, and welcoming business districts.

The effort will be implemented in phases starting in the following areas:
• Stockton Hill Road: From I-40 to Airway Avenue.
• Andy Devine Avenue: From I-40 to Stockton Hill Road.
• Downtown: From Andy Devine Avenue to Oak Street, and from 1st Street to 10th Street.

Signs play an important role in how businesses connect with customers. Keeping them properly placed and maintained supports individual businesses and enhances the overall appearance of the community. The initiative focuses on addressing issues with temporary banners, deteriorated or abandoned signs, and signs that contribute to a cluttered or neglected appearance. Reviews will cover permanent business signs, banners, and feather banners, along with their respective size, placement, and display requirements.

Business and property owners identified with sign issues will receive a letter outlining the necessary corrections and an information sheet detailing the applicable requirements. Owners will be asked to complete corrective actions within 45 days from the letter’s date.

“The City recognizes that owners may have questions about what is required. Staff will work with them to clarify requirements, discuss permits and compliance timelines, and resolve concerns before further enforcement becomes necessary. The goal is to bring signs into compliance through communication and cooperation while applying the same standards fairly to all businesses,” stated Jason Moquin, the City’s Development Services Director.

For questions about signage or a notice received, please contact the City’s Planning Department or Code Enforcement Division at (928) 753-8130.
