BULLHEAD CITY – The Colorado River Union High School District (CRUHSD) governing board is accepting applications to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of board member Pat Young, who stepped down in September.  He was first elected in November 2018 and took office in January 2019.

A new board member will fill an unexpired term, which runs through December 31, 2022.  Young’s resignation came too late to be placed on last month’s ballot.

Under state law, Mohave County Superintendent of Schools Mike File may appoint a replacement on his own or request school board input before choosing someone to serve the remainder of Young’s term.  In the past, File has usually accepted local board recommendations.

The board may recommend its newest member at its January 11 meeting, which is open to the public.

Interested candidates who meet the legal requirements should submit letters of interest no later than 4:00 p.m. on January 8 in one of the following ways:

·       By email to both board clerk Lori Crampton and board staff secretary Terrie Mohn at and

·       By mail at P.O. Box 21479, Bullhead City, AZ 86439

·       In person during business hours at the CRUHSD offices on the Mohave High School campus, 2251 Highway 95, A-Wing, Bullhead City, AZ 86442

School board members are responsible for setting policies and goals, reviewing and approving budgets, and hiring and evaluating the superintendent.  They do not receive a salary for monthly meetings, periodic student disciplinary or personnel hearings, or workshops.

CRUHSD was created in 1989 for students in grades nine through twelve following the division of the former county-wide Mohave Union High School District #30.  It overlays the boundaries of the Bullhead City (Elementary) School District #15, Mohave Valley Elementary School District #16 and Topock Elementary School District #12.  CRUHSD currently has three high schools: Mohave (opened in 1969), River Valley (opened in 1992) and CRUHSD Academy (more than ten years old).  It also owns and operates the Anderson Auto Group Fieldhouse.   Additionally, students are offered dual and concurrent enrollment programs through Mohave Community College.
