Mohave County Sheriff’s Detectives are investigating the in-custody death of a Mohave County Jail inmate. On Sunday (2/14) at approximately 6:37 PM, a Detention Officer observed the inmate, identified as Christie Marie Fortner, 37 of Kingman, had hung herself in her cell. The officer was conducting rounds at the time of the discovery.

The officer entered the cell and initiated lifesaving efforts. Additional officers and medical staff responded but Fortner could not be revived and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The initial investigation shows no reason to suspect foul play. This investigation is ongoing.
