Drowning Victim ID’d As Laughlin Man

MOHAVE VALLEY–The body of a man believed to have drowned in the Colorado River late Friday night has been identified by authorities.

Mohave County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said the victim is that of Jose Miguel Alvarez-Olvera, 36, of Laughlin, Nevada.

Witnesses reported seeing Olvera enter into the water north of Pirates Cove around 8:30 p.m. and began to struggle. He slipped underneath the water and never resurfaced.

Deputies from the Division of Boating Safety along with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the Mohave Valley Fire Department and the San Bernardino County Fire Department launched boats in an attempt to locate the subject. A helicopter from Care Flight also assisted in the search.

Sadly, his body was found a short time later down from the location where he was last seen. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.

The case remains under investigation.
