LITTLEFIELD–A traffic stop outside Littlefield on Saturday led to the discovery of marijuana and cash.
Mohave County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling southbound Interstate 15 for allegedly speeding and failure to maintain the lane. Interviews with the driver and passenger reportedly led deputies to suspect illegal criminal activity.
“There was probable cause to conduct a search of the vehicle,” said Mortensen. “The driver verbally (allegedly) admitted to traveling from New York to California with the money to purchase a load of marijuana wax.”
Deputies reportedly discovered about eight grams of marijuana and a bundle of United States currency, totaling $9,400, added Mortensen.
The driver, whose identity was not released publicly, was cited on suspicion of money laundering, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The cash and marijuana was seized as evidence. The Arizona Department of Public Safety assisted in the investigation.
