Having your business, home, or office professionally cleaned is more than a means to ensure a safe working environment. It is also a public service and a marketing opportunity when you can ensure your customers as well as employees a safe atmosphere, especially in worrisome and confusing times such as this. And it is an investment as well since it can curtail employee sick days.
It is still too early to prophesy about the severity of the flu season. The results from peer reviewed studies that involved a laboratory-confirmed influenza diagnosis suggested that the mean number of working days lost ranged between 1.5 and 4.9 days per episode, per employee. These studies detailed working days lost per employee episode following a physician’s diagnosis of influenza and reported a range of 3.7-5.9 days per episode.
COVID 19 is a more serious matter that we are only beginning to understand. While evolving treatments have curtailed the percentage of fatalities, it is still a much greater threat than seasonal influenza. As an example, a recent study by John Hopkins University determined that, “There have been approximately 1,138,671 deaths reported worldwide. In the U.S, 223,059 people have died of COVID-19 between January 2020 and October 23, 2020. This is in comparison to influenza or flu. The World Health Organization estimates that 290,000 to 650,000 people die of flu-related causes every year worldwide.”
It takes just one sick person in the office to potentially infect the whole staff, and if that person tests positive for COVID 19, it could result in complete closure. To prevent the spread of COVID 19 and other infectious diseases professional cleaning of the office or commercial building is both a precautionary measure as well as an investment.
Various studies have indicated that the coronavirus can remain viable for up to four hours on copper, up to 24 hours on cardboard and possibly two to three on stainless steel and plastic surfaces. Remember that cleaning and disinfecting are two different tasks. The former removes dirt and grime but is not completely effective in the eradication of germs or viruses. Disinfecting does kill germs and viruses but does not necessarily clean a surface. So, it is best to retain the services of a professional to do both.
There are additional benefits to hiring a professional cleaning crew. As an example, the office manager or business owner is free to focus on business rather than spend hours cleaning only to find that their efforts were ineffective in the eradication of viruses and germs. An after-hours cleaning prevents employee distraction and interruption. Then there are the proven benefits of improved morale that in turn results in increased productivity.
