Fall Prevention Awareness Week

Bullhead City, AZ — the coronavirus pandemic has changed a lot of things. One thing that’s still the same – Falling is NOT a normal part of aging. The Bullhead City Fire Department is committed to empowering all older adults to reduce their risk of falls, which are one of the greatest causes of serious injuries and death among people over age 65. On September 20-24, 2021, BCFD is partnering with the National Council on Aging (NCOA) to mark Fall Prevention Awareness Week.

More than one out of four people age 65 and over fall each year. These falls can result in broken bones and other serious injuries. Lift-assist calls can account for a high percentage of emergency calls, consume local resources, and can put our first responders at risk for injury. Our crews ran over 1,300 calls in 2020 that were fall-related.

As part of this national outreach campaign, we will be sharing valuable information on Fall Prevention Awareness among older adults in our community. If you have questions or concerns about fall prevention, please give our Community Risk Reduction Division a call at 928-758-3971.
