UPDATE (4/6/2021): FATAL VEHICLE/ TRAIN COLLISION- GOLDEN VALLEY

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office is continuing our investigation into a vehicle vs. train collision that occurred on Sunday (4/4). At approximately 2:42 PM, deputies responded to the scene and observed two vehicles had been hit by a train. The involved jeep had one occupant, identified as Larry Whatley, 72 of Kingman.

The involved truck had two occupants, identified as Virginia Voyles, 49 of Golden Valley, and Wesley Hoagland, 54 of Golden Valley. All three occupants of the two vehicles were deceased on scene. The collision occurred east of I-40 near the Griffith Rd. exit in Golden Valley. The investigation revealed that
the two vehicles were stopped at the railroad crossing, waiting for a passing east bound train. Once the east bound train passed, they began to cross the intersection, not seeing that a west bound train was approaching. This investigation is ongoing.

On Sunday (4/4) at approximately 2:42 PM, Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a vehicle vs. train collision in Golden Valley. Deputies arrived on scene and observed two vehicles had been hit by the train. Three occupants of the two vehicles were deceased on scene. The investigation revealed that the two vehicles were stopped at the railroad crossing, waiting for a passing east bound train at milepost crossing 528.6. Once the east bound train passed, they began to cross the intersection, not seeing that a west bound train was approaching. Both vehicles were hit by the train. This
investigation is ongoing.
