Oct 18, 2023 – Kingman, AZ — Every year, 6.2 million pets enter shelters, and today many across the nation are overflowing. Feral Cat Warriors is proud to partner with PetSmart Charities® to bring adoptable pets to both Kingman PetSmart and Bullhead City PetSmart in support of PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week, taking place November 6-12.

While kittens enjoy a 81% adoption rate, only 54% of senior cats find a forever home.1 PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week in November coincides with National Adopt a Senior Pet Month. Older pets are often overlooked because of potential future health risks and concerns about ingrained behaviors. But just like people, pets age differently. Aside from doing something wonderful for older pets in need, there are so many reasons why they make ideal companions. Here are just a few benefits to consider:

  • Bonding with senior pets can be a bit easier because they’re more likely to be calmer, more experienced and house-trained.
  • For those in search of a fellow “couch potatoes” to watch movies with or even to lay low while working, senior pets can be the perfect match.
  • Whether it’s their preferences or their personalities, pets in the golden years may be more transparent.
  • Living with senior pets can inspire their people to slow down and take time to stop and smell the roses.
  • Adopting senior pets ensures peace and better health in their final years and helps shelters to ease the overcrowding.

“This special week is a call to action, and an opportunity to bring new love into your home,” said Heidi Marston, director of pet placement at PetSmart Charities. “Shelters across the nation are overflowing, and we’re encouraging folks to consider the unique joys of older pets, who bring a special kind of lowkey, loyal comfort to their people. Some of my deepest bonds have been with pets who came into my life when they were in their golden years – it really is a gift. We’re thankful for Feral Cat Warriors’ partnership in helping make perfect matches!”

During the in-store event, Feral Cat Warriors invite potential pet parents to meet adoptable pets in their area. Opportunities will be given to spend time with pets in spacious meet and greet areas. Staff and volunteers will help potential adopters learn about caring for pets and point to welcome resources.

Aren’t sure if you’re ready to adopt? Please consider fostering a senior pet! This not only gets them out into loving homes, but helps alleviate overcrowding at shelters, and can be an ideal opportunity to really get to know the animals.

“It’s so very exciting to be part of this partnership with PetSmart Charities,” said Emily Black, president of Feral Cat Warriors. “We have recently been working on a senior-to-senior program within Feral Cat Warriors. We are pleased to see PetSmart Charities shine a light on the older pets in need of loving homes. These cats are some of the most loving compassionate animals you will ever meet, and more often than not, they are homeless because of some circumstance beyond their control,” said Black.

Adoptable pets will be available at the following times and PetSmart locations:

Nov 6 – 12, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

PetSmart – Kingman (3260 Stockton Hill Rd, Kingman, AZ, United States, 86409)
