On Thursday, May 12, 2022, just after 9 p.m., an AZDPS trooper stopped behind a disabled vehicle blocking the left lane of southbound Interstate 15 at milepost 23, near Littlefield. A Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) K-9 deputy then parked his patrol SUV behind the trooper’s vehicle to assist.
The driver of a white Chevrolet van failed to slow down and move over for the stopped vehicles and emergency lights and crashed into the back of the MCSO deputy’s vehicle. Fortunately, the deputy was outside his vehicle at the time of the collision. He received minor injuries to his hand. Incredibly, the deputy’s K-9 partner in the SUV did not sustain any major injuries.
The driver of the van and one passenger were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries.
Incidents like this are preventable. Please, pay attention, slow down and move over as soon as safely possible when you see vehicles with flashing lights stopped on or beside the roadway ahead.
