On 5/26/2021 at approximately 6:14 pm The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Beach Drive in Golden Shores Arizona In reference to a weapons offense. When deputies arrived they discovered a deceased adult male inside the home that had been shot. Detectives were contacted and responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. During the investigation it was determined Charles Haas, a tenant of the residence was involved in an altercation with the deceased, Michael Maletta.

During the altercation Maletta confronted Haas about financial disagreements. Maletta allegedly attacked Haas, using brass knuckles. Haas, who did have a firearm on his person, held it in his hand at this time. Maletta left the room claiming he was going to go get his firearm and returned moments later and began assaulting Haas again. At some point during the assault Maletta had got behind Haas and grabbed him by the hair and threatened to snap Haas’ neck. Haas then discharged his firearm striking Maletta twice, fatally wounding Maletta. The case is still under investigation and upon conclusion of the investigation it will be sent over for review by the Mohave County Attorney’s Office.
