On January 7, 2022, Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 2000 block of Mesa Vista Place in Fort Mohave, AZ, in reference to a one year old child who was not breathing. When Deputies arrived on scene they found that CPR was being administered by the child’s mother’s boyfriend, Nikko Demitri McLachlan, and a neighbor who had responded to the home after hearing screaming.

Deputies assisted with CPR when they arrived on scene. The Fort Mojave Mesa Fire Department arrived on scene and transported the child to Valley View Medical Center and was later flown to the UNC Children’s Hospital in Las Vegas, NV. Detectives with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office responded to UNC Children’s Hospital during the course of the investigation.

The child passed away on January 10, 2022 at the Las Vegas hospital. The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office informed investigators that the child passed away due to bilateral
subdural hematomas (extensive brain injury) and indicated it was non-accidental. Detectives continued their investigation and on January 13, 2022, Nikko McLachlan, 27 of Fort Mohave, was arrested for homicide in relation to the child’s death and booked into the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility in Kingman, AZ.

On January 20, 2022 the Mohave County Grand Jury indicted Nikko McLachlan for First Degree Murder per Domestic Violence, Second Degree Murder per Domestic Violence and Child Abuse per Domestic Violence. The investigation is ongoing.
