On Wednesday (8/11) at approximately 7:37 AM, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office was contacted in reference to a suspicious call in the 5800 Block of Gazelle Dr. in Fort Mohave. The caller reported they were not able to contact Robert Kurowski, 45 of Mohave Valley, so they responded to his residence to check on him. The caller found the residence was locked and observed blankets covering windows to the home. The concerned citizen entered the home through a window and observed blood and a strong odor, so they exited the residence and called 9-1-1.

When Deputies arrived, they entered the home and located Kurowski deceased in the home. It was determined that Robert was the victim of a homicide and Kurowski’s vehicle was missing from the residence. The vehicle was listed as a stolen vehicle and an Attempt to Locate was put out to all local agencies. While Deputies were on scene, Kurowski’s vehicle was observed driving in the area. Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle but the driver failed to stop. Deputies pursued the vehicle for some time and ended up in the desert east of Mohave Valley. The vehicle was located wrecked in a wash, as well as the driver of the vehicle, James Rosario Downing, 22 of Mohave Valley, who is the step-son of the deceased.

Downing was interviewed by Detectives and admitted his involvement in the death of Robert Kurowski. James Rosario Downing was booked at the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility in Kingman for 2nd Degree Homicide and Unlawful Flight, both felonies. The deceased was conveyed by the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office. This investigation is ongoing.
