Hualapai’s Flag Fire 88% Contained

Park to Open Within Days to Non-Residents

MOHAVE COUNTY, AZ (May 5, 2021) – The Flag Fire is now 88% contained. Resources have been released so that the Type 3 Incident Management Team is no longer needed. Local BLM crews will be patrolling the fire and continuing to deal with any potential trouble spots, such as smoldering logs and stump holes.

The community of Pine Lake is open to visitors, but, the park itself, the trails, and Flag Mine Road remain closed.  The BLM Incident Commander will probably give the all clear for opening Hualapai Mountain Road to non-resident traffic within a few days. (A press release will go out when that occurs.) Flag Mine Road south of Pine Lake will remain closed for an indefinite period because of the potential for falling rock and debris. Mohave County Parks has developed a phased reopening plan for the Park to allow for assessment and removal of any remaining hazards.

Supervisor Jean Bishop and County personnel from the Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, Public Works (including County Parks), Flood Control, and Emergency Management, along with BLM and State Forestry personnel, attended a meeting with Pine Lake residents hosted by the Pine Lake Fire Department on Monday evening in Pine Lake. BLM fire personnel provided a summary of the Flag Fire activities and current status, and Mohave County Flood Control briefed residents on the potential for future flooding from the burn scar and provided information on obtaining flood insurance. Residents expressed gratitude to all of the agencies and personnel that participated in evacuation and fire suppression activities.
