On Tuesday (9/1) morning, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a group of recreationalists who had been four-wheeling in an area off Boundary Cone Road, just west of Oatman, Arizona. During a previous trip a few months ago, they had befriended a 77-year-old male who had been camping in the area while collecting rocks. They gave him some food and water and continued on their adventure.

They went out again into this area yesterday morning and came across his campsite to find him missing, while his personal belongings and gear remained at the campsite. Deputies and Search and Rescue responded to the area and began a search for the male subject. Early Wednesday morning (9/2), our human remains detection K-9 team joined the search and quickly located the missing male, deceased nearby. The custody of the remains were transferred to the Mohave County Medical Examiner. The identity of the deceased male and his cause of death is under investigation.
