Kingman is in the spotlight with Route centennial celebrations and more. As one of the towns mentioned in the song about getting your kicks on Route 66, Kingman is well known to Route 66 enthusiasts. But the award winning Beale Street infrastructure project, projects spearheaded by Kingman Main Street including Kingman Tours, the narrated self guided historic district walking tour, and relighting the Hotel Beale sign, the dynamic First Friday festivities, and the diverse array of businesses that have opened in the hsitoric business district are all playing a role in making Kingman a destination instead of just a stop.
Australian TV personality and host of Classic Restos, Mark “Fletch” Fletcher, and his wife Donna, video development assistance, was recently in Kingman filming scenes for a Route 66 centennial program. Ultra-cycling legend Joe Barr who is attmept to set an unprecedented Guinness World Record by riding on Route 66 from end to end in eight days, and his support team as well as the film creating a documentary about this historic event, made a pitstop in Kingman. Two Lane America, Gilligan’s Route 66 Tours, Route 66 Tours, Route 66 Germany, the Czech Route 66 Association, and numerous other tour companies include a lunch or overnight stop, and a program by Jim Hinckley of Jim Hinckley’s America, in their trips along Route 66.
Diverse events, especially those that showcase the vibrancy of the historic district, are also fueling KIngman’s reputation as a destination. This list of upcoming events is provided by Joyce Wiley of the Kingman Office of Tourism.
