Kingman Police Officer Involved Shooting
On October 14th, at about 5:30am, a Kingman police officer was involved in a shooting at a residence in the 2000blk of Fairgrounds Blvd. Beginning at about 2:15am officers responded to the residence after receiving a 911 report that a man in the home was shooting at neighboring homes. Officers arrived, surrounded the residence and began to communicate with the subject. Officers used a public address (PA) system directing the subject to come out of the house, unarmed.
Over a period of two hours the subject continued to be verbally aggressive, uncooperative, confrontational and firing at officers from inside the home. KPD requested the SWAT team from Lake Havasu City Police Department. The SWAT team entered the home at about 8:15am and discovered the suspect deceased. It is unknown at this time if the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot or as a result of the officer’s actions.
As standard protocol for officer involved shootings the Kingman police officer involved has been placed on administrative leave. The officer has served with KPD for 6 years. The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office will be handling the criminal investigation and all media inquiries beyond this release.
Media inquiries should be directed to their public information specialist, Anita Mortensen at 928-753-0753 ext. 4755 or [email protected]
