For those that have a need for speed this weekend was for them. The Kingman Route 66 Street Drags rocked down Route 66 all weekend with some of the most powerful drag vehicles in the country. The Bee was able to speak with a few local drivers and others that were from as far as Montana that took part in the races. The event packed the stadium seating on both sides of Route 66 and the vendors were bustling with spectators enjoying some great food, beverages, shopping and racing This event marks it’s return since 2011 when it was an annual event. The community turned out in droves of people showing the interest is alive and well. The organization is anticipating the event to be twice the size next year.
The highly successful event brings added income into many communities. Street Races or Sand Drags both increase revenue through hotel bookings, vendor rentals, not to mention auto parts supplies and accessories sales. Along with the participants these events draw many spectators who become potential customers for all of the local restaurants and businesses. The world of motorsports has exploded in the past few years.
