Nearing Completion

KINGMAN, AZ (December 15, 2020) –Progress is occurring regarding the Kingman Veteran Villas (KVV.) The first twenty-four units have been completed. Each villa contains 930 Sq. Ft. of living area, consisting of one bedroom, kitchen, bath, and single car garage. The Mohave County Housing Authority (MCHA) certified ten units, with another fourteen units scheduled for certification in the near future. Certificates of Occupancy have been obtained from the City of Kingman. Since December 3rd, ten veterans have been housed at the villas.

The MCHA is in the process of reviewing to qualify another six veterans who were referred from NAVAHCS (Northern Arizona VA Health Care System). The veterans who have moved in have expressed positive comments about their new home. Their comments include: “It’s giving me dignity”; “I can’t believe I have such a nice place to live”; “I haven’t lived in a new house since I was 6 years old”; and “I’m so happy I can share this new home with my wife—she gets to enjoy it too”.

More villas will be completed and available in the near future. It is estimated that this project will be completed in February, 2021. Homeless veterans in Mohave, La Paz, Yavapai or Coconino Counties, who may be interested in relocating in Kingman, are encouraged to contact Healthcare for Homeless Veterans Supervisor, Karen Charles (928) 718-7305 or her staff members, Keith Harris (928) 718-7382 or Helen Ekholt (928) 550-1875.

Important Eligibility Guidelines for Kingman Veteran Villas are:

  • A chronically homeless veteran who is eligible to receive services through the VA
  • Assessed as needing a high level of Case Management Interventions
  • Must meet income guidelines. For example, a single veteran must have income no higher than $1,090 a month

Additionally, Kingman Rotary Club is providing veterans with items to furnish their new villa and have been working in tandem with the VA to provide needed accessories to those veterans in need.
