Kingman, Arizona, January 24, 2022 – The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded continued accreditation to the Kingman Regional Medical Center (KRMC) laboratory. The lab’s most recent on-site inspection showed an overall 99.2% compliance rate, with blood bank and cytopathology services both earning a 100% compliance rating. The College of American Pathologists is the gold standard in medical laboratory accreditation. Through this rigorous inspection process, CAP has certified that KRMC is meeting the highest standards in quality patient care.

“These inspection results represent the dedication of our lab leadership and staff,” said Dr. Ryan Swapp, medical director of KRMC’s laboratory. “I’m especially proud of the way this team has been able to serve our patients throughout the pandemic and meet the evolving needs for testing within the community.” The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program. KRMC’s lab is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
