LAKE HAVASU CITY–A man was stabbed late Wednesday night at Body Beach following a reported altercation involving 14 people, said the Lake Havasu City Police Department.
Lt. Shane Sloma said officers from his agency were dispatched to Body Beach shortly before 10 p.m. for a report of a physical fight.
“When officers arrived they (reportedly) encountered several individuals who claimed that they were “jumped” by a group of other subjects following a road rage incident,” said Sloma. “Within a few moments, officers were able to locate the other parties involved near the south entrance to Rotary Park.”
Arriving on scene, officers found that 24-year-old Jared Ransom, of Lake Havasu City, had been stabbed multiple times.
In all, said Sloma, there were around 14 people involved in the altercation, including four-to-five who were physically fighting.
Ransom was allegedly stabbed by Johnny Joe Williams, 21, of Kingman. He was taken to Havasu Regional Medical Center for treatment of his non-life threatening injuries.
However, investigators say there is evidence to suggest that Williams may have stabbed Ransom in self-defense, said Sloma.
“At this time, due to the conflicting statements of the parties involved, and the possible likely hood that the stabbing was in self-defense, the case has been sent to the Mohave County Attorney’s Office for review of criminal charges,” said Sloma.
