MOHAVE COUNTY, AZ (October 19, 2020) –The Mohave County Health Department (MCDPH) Nursing staff has been notified of 32 new confirmed COVID-19 cases reported today. There are no reported new deaths.

Of the 32 new cases, there are 15 new cases in the Lake Havasu City service area. There are 8 new cases in the Bullhead City service area. The Kingman service area has 8 new cases. The North County service area has 1 new case.

Of the 15 new cases in the Lake Havasu City area, all of them remain under investigation.  Two are 0-10; one is 11-19; four are 20-29; two are 30-39; one is 40-49; one is 50-59; one is 60-69; one is 70-79; two are 80-89.

Of the 8 new cases in the Bullhead City area, seven of them remain under investigation. Two are 11-19; one is 20-29; one is 50-59; three are 60-69. The 8^th case in the Bullhead City area is an 80-89 person, who is recovering at home and is linked to another case.

Of the 8 new cases in the Kingman area, six remain under investigation. One is 20-29; two are 30-39; three are 50-59. The final two Kingman area cases are a 30-39 and a 40-49 person, who are recovering at home and are linked to another case.

The single new case in the North County area is a 60-69 person and the case remains under investigation.

At times, we receive a number of cases that are duplicates of other cases. Some are pending further testing and/or are missing other information. When we can de-duplicate them, we subtract the duplicate cases and keep the originals. If we receive no new cases, this can mean an overall reduction in total cases. All Mohave County cases and death records are kept in a secure database maintained by Arizona Department of Health Services. This database has numerous benefits (including cost savings, security of data, immediate test results data, etc.), but it does mean working within their system for data management. Thus, there can be duplicates, cases transferred in or out from other counties, and other conditions that may temporarily affect Mohave County case counts on some days.

 IMPORTANT NOTE: The Mohave County Department of Public Health staff review case information for accuracy and completeness. As a result of recent reviews, the case count and respective demographic data will often be adjusted slightly to show accurate data. There are a number of reasons for the adjustment, including the removal of cases that did not have a permanent address in Mohave County, reconciliation of cases reported twice or not originally reported, and removal of probable cases.

 **The Average age of all Mohave County positive cases is now 47.6 years old.

 The Average age of deaths from COVID-19 in Mohave County is now      75.8.

Free Ongoing COVID-19 Testing

Bullhead City/Kingman/Lake Havasu City

Embry Women’s Health/Apollo Healthcare & Diagnostics has launched three COVID-19 Drive-Thru Testing Sites in Mohave County that started on Labor Day, September 7. These sites are the first for Embry outside of Maricopa County, where they currently operate 13 COVID-19 drive-thru testing sites, some of which operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“The goal is to offer testing to as many Arizonians as possible. We don’t want to stop expanding until we’re covering all 15 counties in Arizona,” said Raymond Embry, CEO of Embry Women’s Health. “We’ve been proud to meet the demand for COVID-19 testing head-on, and are grateful for the support from the public and state authorities of our operation”.

Embry Women’s Health is offering COVID-19 PCR testing with results in 36-72 hours at ZERO cost to persons of all ages. They are also offering the Antigen test with 24 hours results for $50.00 to all persons above the age of 12.

 Please remember: It is vital that people continue to practice Social Distancing and wear masks in public. Always wash your hands when returning to your office or home. Please be alert and be safe.

The Mohave County Department of Public Health makes contact with all confirmed cases and encourages self-isolation for ten days to two weeks, depending on their symptoms and unique work and living situation.  Public Health staff then identify the people who have been exposed to the confirmed case (contact tracing) and encourage them to self-isolate until they are past the point of possibly developing the infection.  Public Health monitors each confirmed case, and all of the contacts during quarantines.

There remains the problem of an overall lack of interest in wearing a mask, staying home when sick, and true adherence to Social Distancing. This allows the COVID-19 virus to continue its march through our county. Over confidence is not the best attitude.

Meanwhile, please keep in mind that the best ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are to: 

*Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when unable to remain about six feet apart..

*Maintain Social Distancing (at least 6 Feet apart!)

*Stay at home if at all possible.

* Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

* Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

* Avoid close contact with anyone who is sick.

* Stay home when you are sick, or if you are not an essential employee.

* Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then immediately throw the tissue in the trash.

* Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

*Beware of false rumors and attempts to discredit COVID-19. It is not a hoax. Check reliable sources when new information comes out.

COVID-19 spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Symptoms are thought to appear within two to 14 days after exposure and consist of fever, cough, runny nose, and difficulty breathing. For people with mild illness, individuals are asked to stay home, drink plenty of fluids, and get rest. For people with more severe symptoms, such as shortness of breath, individuals are advised to seek healthcare, using telemedicine where available.
