Deputy Strickland was in attendance at the tragic mass shooting at the Highway 91 Harvest Festival in 2017. As the citation of

the award notes:

For having performed an act of outstanding personal bravery intelligently performed at imminent personal hazard to life

under circumstances evincing a disregard of personal consequences on the First of October 2017, at the Route 91 Harvest

Festival shooting, when Deputy Strickland threw his body over that of his companion in the midst of automatic gunfire,

being wounded twice in the process.
