Bullhead City, Ariz. (March 28, 2022)  ̶  Laughlin/Bullhead International Airport’s Wings and Wheels Airport Open House is helping bring history alive with the historic World War II aircraft C-53 D-Day Doll and two helicopters from the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation. “We’re beyond excited to bring these two organizations and their aircraft to our open house,” said LBIA Director Jeremy Keating. “It’s an outstanding opportunity for the community to see and experience up close these historic aircraft and talk with the people who fly and care for them.”

Open to the public from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 2, the open house celebration is located on the airport apron at Signature Flight Support, 2550 South Laughlin View Drive. Parking and admission to the event are free. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. The Commemorative Air Force Inland Empire Wing’s WWII C-53D “Skytrooper” D-Day Doll participated in most of the important battles to liberate Europe from Nazi Germany including the Normandy Invasion, Operation Market-Garden, Operation Varsity and in the dropping of supplies to surrounded U.S. troops in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge.

Accompanying the D-Day Doll is the CAF-Inland Empire Wing’s living history exhibit, D-Day Experience, which brings history to life with reenactments and hands-on artifacts for the public to explore. Wings and Wheels also welcomes the display of two helicopters from the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation, a national, one-of-a-kind non-profit organization composed of veterans, their families and civilian supporters who work to obtain, restore and maintain in flyable condition examples of historic aircraft representing Army Aviation from Vietnam to present.

The historic aircraft join more than 30 additional vintage and contemporary aircraft provided by private pilots and aircraft owners for display. Pilots and crew for many of the exhibits will be available to answer questions.

More than 50 cherished and classic automobiles and motorcycles representing area clubs TG & A, Colorado River Corvette Club, Classic Low Riders, Women in the Wind, Patriot Guard Riders and Final Option Motorcycle Club will also display on the airport apron.  Vehicle displays are also provided by Airport Fire Department, Bullhead City Police Department and Bullhead City Fire Department.

Exhibits include remote control aircraft by Colorado River Aircraft Pilots Society, LASS and Fun Flights RC Club, Apex Aviation, Arizona Aircraft Services, Arizona Pilots Association, Cactus Aviation Flight School, Mohave County Sheriff’s Department K9 Foundation and the U.S. Army. Established in 1943, Laughlin/Bullhead International Airport serves the Tri-state, as well as surrounding areas including Kingman and Lake Havasu City. It is one of the busiest non-metropolitan passenger airports in Arizona and Nevada.
