Dear Learning Community,

The Governing Board will have a special meeting this Thursday at 6:30 PM at the Anderson Auto Fieldhouse to discuss the metal detector policy. This week, our school Principals implemented the policy following the “letter of the policy.” This resulted in a scenario at one of our campuses that runs counter to our top priorities; student safety and student learning.

1am confident that, with Governing Board support, procedures can be put in place that allow us to implement the metal detector policy within the “spirit of the policy.” The end result will be students who are safer and in their classrooms on time. It will take further study, planning, and communication to achieve this goal.

In the meantime, I am temporarily suspending the use of the metal detectors until administration receives further guidance and direction from our Governing Board and until a better plan is in place. Any student who was marked ‘tardy’ or ‘absent’ on 3-6-23

between 7:40 AM and 9:15 AM will have their tardy or absence excused.

Sincerely,

Dr. Tim Richard

Superintendent
