Late last Saturday (7/2) evening, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue was notified of a lost family in the Whitney Pockets area of the Arizona Strip. The family of four (a 46-year-old male, 43-year-old female, a 10-year-old boy, an 8-year-old boy and their dog) had taken their UTV out and it had a mechanical failure. The family walked approximately 10 miles from their UTV before they obtained cell service and called for help. Search and Rescue, along with BLM Rangers, responded and began a route and location search. Search teams located them near Whitney Pockets, on the Arizona Strip – southeast of Mesquite, Nevada. The family was glad to be found and were then transported to their vehicle and trailer parked in Bunkerville, Nevada. Search and Rescue wants to remind everyone when exploring the remote and rugged wilderness areas of Mohave County, to travel with multiple vehicles and bring plenty of supplies.
