FORT MOHAVE–A local man is in jail after being arrested Saturday on suspicion of sexually abusing a female during a reported assault.

Kenneth Cyril Smith, 51 of Fort Mohave, is facing two counts aggravated assault, two counts of sexual abuse, and one count possession of dangerous drugs, all felonies.

Mohave County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said deputies responded to a residence in the 1700 block of Hammer Lane in reference to a 911 hang up. When deputies arrived, they reportedly noticed a male subject, later identified as Smith, sitting on a bicycle in the front yard.

Mortensen said when deputies asked Smith if he had any weapons in his possession, Smith reportedly began emptying his pockets on the ground at which time a baggie reportedly containing methamphetamine was located. Smith was detained, while deputies made contact with a female subject inside the residence.

The victim told deputies that Smith had allegedly entered her home and got on top of her. She alleges Smith continued assaulting her by putting his hand over her mouth to restrict her breathing and sexually abused her by fondling her. She told deputies he than reportedly wrapped a headphone cord around her neck in an attempt to restrict her breathing once more.

Mortensen said deputies noticed marks on the victim that were consistent with the allegations. However, Smith denied the allegations levied against him.

He was arrested and taken to the Mohave County jail in Kingman, where he is being held on a $50,000 bond.
