MCC hires medical doctor with extensive educational leadership background to head college health professions

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College is pleased to announced Dr. Liliya Tischenko, M.D., to serve as the new Dean of Health Professions. She will provide leadership in the development of new programs and diversification of existing programs to help students and meet the needs of communities throughout Mohave County.

“Dr. Tishchenko brings many years of experience to MCC and will be an integral part of the instructional team building enrollment and improving student learning outcomes and overall College effectiveness,” said MCC Executive Vice President Dr. Tim Culver, who oversees the college deans.  “We are so pleased that Dr. Tishchenko has decided to join the MCC family.”

Dr. Tischenko is an experienced medical doctor with a successful history of working in the medical education management industry for more than 20 years.

She was born and raised in Sosnove, Ukraine.  Her parents and other family members were physicians who devoted their careers to the growth and development of medical care in the rural areas of the country.

She earned her Doctor of Medicine, M.D., degree in 1992 from Ternopil State Medical University in Ternopil, Ukraine.  She also holds more than a dozen medical certifications.  She moved to America in 2003 and became a U.S. citizen, working first at Loyola University Medical Center in Illinois, and the Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

“I am truly grateful and honored to be a part of Mohave Community College,” said Dr. Tischenko.  “I love the MCC Mission and Vision, it is truly and fully appealing to my professional and personal core values and beliefs. I am looking forward to leading a great team of health professionals who change lives, and help make our world a better place by preparing the next generation of professionals who will be serving you, me and our community.”

Currently, Dr. Tischenko is the Director of Diagnostic Medical Sonography at Pima Medical Institute in Phoenix. Prior to that she was Director of Allied Health Science at Northwest Suburban College in Illinois, and Director of Education for Brookline College.

She moved to Arizona so she could escape the upper Midwest winters.  “I don’t like the chronic brutal cold, windy, grey and extended Chicago winter weather.”

One of her two sons still works in Chicago, so she’ll still be able to visit when the weather is nice.  Her other son works in San Diego.

She begins her new position at MCC on August 9.

The college fall semester begins August 23 and the enrollment window is currently open.  It is free to apply to become an MCC student.  Applications can be filled out online at Apply.Mohave.Edu.  Those needing assistance should call 866-MOHAVECC, or visit the college Student Services Office on campus.
