KINGMAN–The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada just awarded Mohave Community College the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

“The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” said Michele Mark Levine, director of GFOA technical services center.

The GFOA awarded MCC for the college’s comprehensive 2017 annual financial report.

“We are very proud of our Financial Services team, and this outstanding recognition is more proof of the great work they do every day,” said MCC President Dr. Michael Kearns.

The MCC annual financial report was judged by an impartial panel, which found the report meets high standards and demonstrates a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate the MCC financial story, according to the GFOA.

“We hope the MCC example will encourage others in their efforts to achieve and maintain an appropriate standard of excellence in financial reporting,” said Levine.

“This award signifies we are exceptional stewards of taxpayer funds and that our statements reflect not only the transparency of our accounting records, but a great measure of the college’s overall health,” said Sonni Marbury, MCC chief financial officer.

The financial report shows the college consistently remains under budget while maximizing resources to continue bringing high quality instruction and new program development to the community, said Marbury.
