BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. – MEC will temporarily credit the money order processing fee of $1 or less for members using a money order to pay their electric bill.

“We know many of our members do not have a way to pay their MEC bill electronically,” said Ardie Lauxman, chief financial officer of MEC.

“During this time of health concerns, we are encouraging members to use our drop box instead of coming inside the office to make a payment. The CDC is asking the public to limit personal contact, and this is a way to help slow the spread of COVID-19.”

Lauxman explained how it works:

  • Purchase a money order in the amount of the payment and make it out to Mohave Electric Cooperative, Incorporated.
  • Low-fee money orders can be purchased at Safeway, Smith’s, and Walmart for less than $1.
  • Deposit an envelope with the money order, MEC payment coupon, and receipt for the fee paid to purchase the money order in MEC’s payment drop box.
  • MEC will credit the payment to your electric service account and the money order fee up to $1, if a receipt for the fee is included.

MEC accepts drop box payments by check or money order, no cash. The drop box is located at MEC’s Member Services Office, 928 Hancock Rd., Bullhead City. Look for the drop box at the side of the building on Sea Breeze Lane, across from the MEC member parking lot. There is no need to enter the building.

“Our office is still open for our members’ business, but we want to encourage members to use this temporary payment option and our electronic payment options as a precaution that promotes social distancing,” Lauxman said.

Payments also can be made electronically by using MEC’s SmartHub or by calling (877) 371-7357 to access the automated voice system. Other services such as connects, disconnects, billing questions, and payment arrangements can also be conducted by calling the Member Services Office at (928) 763-1100.

For updated information, members should continue to monitor the MEC website and Facebook page.  |
