Mohave County Adult Detention Facility In – Custody Suicide Attempt Update

Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Detectives are continuing their investigation into a suicide attempt that occurred at the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility on November 16, 2021. At approximately 5:24 PM, Detention Officers observed a male inmate hanging inside his cell. The inmate has been identified as Zachary Thomas Dowd, 27 of Kingman. Dowd was taken by ambulance to Kingman Regional Medical Center and further transported to a Las Vegas hospital. Detectives learned that Dowd succumbed to his
injuries at the medical facility in Las Vegas.

Dowd was booked into the facility on August 20, 2021 and was being held on charges of Attempted Murder 2 nd Degree, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Disorderly Conduct, and Theft of Means of Transportation at the time of the incident. An “end of life” note was located in his cell during the investigation. All evidence located during the investigation indicated the manner of death was suicide.


On Tuesday (11/16) at 5:24 PM, detention staff at the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility located a male inmate hanging in his cell. Detention Officers intervened and began life-saving measures while EMS responded to the facility. The inmate was transported to Kingman Regional Medical Center for treatment and subsequently admitted to a Las Vegas hospital where he currently is in critical condition.

Detectives with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office responded to investigate the incident. The inmate was housed in a single person cell. The name of the inmate is being withheld at this time. The investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
